RN Tomahawk
Integration
Royal
Navy Tomahawk Integration (RNTI) was the UK Ministry of Defence
(MOD) requirement for the integration of the US Tomahawk cruise
missile launch capability into the Royal Navy Swiftsure and
Trafalgar Class submarines.
The RNTI programme was won in October 1995, and primed by
Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems,
Manassas, US. Within a multi-national support team, UK
Integrated Systems provided in-country subcontract management
for the five UK companies that undertook development and
production tasks. UK Integrated Systems also supplied dedicated
support to the systems integration, installation and test
programme which was being carried out in the UK.
Just 36 months after programme inception, the first non-US
Tomahawk was fired from HMS Splendid in November 1998.
Achievement of schedule milestones was just one of the factors
involved which led to the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile project
being named MOD
Project of the Year (1999) by the Defence
Procurement Agency.
