The British Army and Royal Marines are to be equipped with new advanced electronic warfare equipment under project Soothsayer. This is a £140 million programme for which Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor. Soothsayer detects and identifies radio and radar signals used on the battlefield. It is fitted to high mobility light role and armoured vehicles. Lockheed Martin Systems Integration will supply a range of new portable equipment that will be used to support British military operations anywhere in the world.

Programme Details
Lockheed Martin was selected as preferred bidder following a three year competitive assessment phase. The contract was awarded to Lockheed Martin Systems Integration -Owego on 11 August 2003 and runs from 2003.

The MOD customer is the Joint Electronic Support Integrated Project Team (JES IPT), in the Defence Procurement Agency. Lockheed Martin performed a demonstration of some of the new technology involved in Soothsayer in May 2004, and the system Critical Design Review was held in September 2004.  Work is now progressing on the detailed design of two pre-production mission modules being built and testing will be underway throughout 2006.  Soothsayer’s capabilities are scheduled to be delivered in increments to units of the Army and Royal Marines.  Lockheed Martin’s partners and major subcontractors for this project are Argon Engineering (Fairfax, USA, Austin Information Systems (Texas, USA), Insys (Ampthill), LogicaCMG (Leatherhead), Detica (Guildford), and QinetiQ (Malvern)
