soothsayer
The
British Army and Royal Marines are to be equipped with new
advanced electronic warfare equipment under project Soothsayer.
This is a £140 million programme for which Lockheed Martin is
the prime contractor. Soothsayer detects and identifies radio
and radar signals used on the battlefield. It is fitted to high
mobility light role and armoured vehicles. Lockheed Martin
Systems Integration will supply a range of new portable
equipment that will be used to support British military
operations anywhere in the world.
Programme Details
Lockheed Martin was selected as preferred bidder following a
three year competitive assessment phase. The contract was
awarded to Lockheed Martin Systems Integration -Owego on 11
August 2003 and runs from 2003.
The MOD customer is the Joint Electronic Support Integrated
Project Team (JES IPT), in the Defence Procurement Agency.
Lockheed Martin performed a demonstration of some of the new
technology involved in Soothsayer in May 2004,
and the system Critical Design Review was held in September 2004. Work is now
progressing on the detailed design of two
pre-production mission modules being built and testing will be
underway throughout 2006. Soothsayer’s capabilities are scheduled
to be delivered in increments to units of
the Army and Royal Marines. Lockheed
Martin’s partners and major subcontractors for this project are
Argon Engineering (Fairfax, USA, Austin
Information Systems (Texas, USA), Insys (Ampthill), LogicaCMG
(Leatherhead), Detica (Guildford), and QinetiQ (Malvern)
