Integrated Merlin Operational Support (IMOS)
In
March 2006, Lockheed Martin UK was awarded a 25-year
Integrated Merlin Operational Support (IMOS) contract by
AgustaWestland to provide comprehensive support to the Royal
Navy’s fleet of Merlin Mk1 helicopters.
Merlin might be the most advanced helicopter of its type in
the world, but without the right processes in place to keep the
fleet properly maintained and airworthy, or the correct training
schedules to keep crews and operators up to speed with systems
and upgrades, the Royal Navy won’t get the most out of the
aircraft.
So, the IMOS contract is designed to optimise the Merlin
Mk1’s availability to support front line operations. It covers
everything from training to servicing and spare parts for the
Avionics Systems, the Avionic Test System and the Training
System.
By bringing together a team from industry: the Royal Navy,
the Royal Air Force and the MoD, IMOS will reduce response times
and improve system availability by having experts on-site to
deal with queries and issues.
The team at RNAS Culdrose – the main Merlin Mk1 operating
base - will be able to reach back to a centralised team of
experts at AgustaWestland’s UK site in Yeovil to provide a
comprehensive support solution.
