The Lockheed Martin
Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) X-35A made its historic
and successful first flight marking its entry into
the flight-test program and validating the Lockheed
Martin design approach. With a greater than
one-to-one thrust-to-weight ratio and Pratt &
Whitney F119-611 engine, the sleek, supersonic
fighter took to the skies from the Lockheed Martin
flight test base in Palmdale, California.

four years, Lockheed Martin has been selected as the
recipient of the Air Traffic Control Association's
Industry Award. The award, which recognizes
outstanding achievement and contribution in
advancing the science of air traffic control, will
be presented at ATCA's 45th Annual Meeting,
International Technical Program and Exhibits, in
Atlantic City, N.J., on October 24.

been awarded a multi-million pound contract by the
Ministry of Defence (MOD) following an extensive
competitive source selection process to undertake an
Assessment Phase contract for the Soothsayer
Electronic Warfare (EW) system for the British Army

The United Kingdom's
National Air Traffic Services, Ltd. (NATS) has
awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin for the
development of the New Scottish Centre (NSC) air
traffic control system to be installed at Prestwick
in Ayrshire, Scotland. The two year initial system
development effort is funded at £50GBP million
($80USD million).
