AMPTHILL, UK August 13, 2007
Lockheed Martin UK - INSYS has officially opened a new £2
million high-tech manufacturing centre at its Ampthill site.
Part of
the regeneration of the Ampthill facility, the new
development will be a ‘clean’ dust-free environment where
specialist technicians can build and repair advanced
systems. As many as 60 specialists are expected to work
there once it is operating to full capacity.
The
development is designed to be used by a variety of high-tech
programmes including the repair of sensitive optics and
avionics equipment, although its first application will be
as a centre for the manufacture of Ground Support Equipment
for the Apache Attack Helicopter.
LMUK
INSYS’ managing director, Stephen Ball said: “This new
development is a massive step forward in capability at this
site and a real investment in our future. We already have
many staff here with unique skills and capabilities and this
is recognised in the critical work we do. Acting as the
repair and development centre for some of the most advanced
systems on the world’s most advanced helicopter is a
recognition of this, and will be the gateway to more
specialist work of this nature.”
