HAVANT STAFF WIN TOP LOCKHEED MARTIN HONOUR
HAVANT, UK, October 31 2006
A team of 23 Lockheed Martin UK employees have been
honoured with the NOVA Award – the very highest accolade the
corporation can offer - for their exemplary work on the
Merlin helicopter programme.
The team members, all based at the Lockheed Martin
UK-Integrated Systems plant in Havant, have been recognised
for their outstanding work which has cemented the plant’s
reputation as a recognised centre of excellence for vital UK
systems integration work, particularly on complex helicopter
systems.
Thanks in part to an innovative ‘spend-to-save’ business
case which offered an overall cost saving to the Ministry of
Defence of £500 million, the team was able to secure a £750
million contract earlier this year to upgrade the Merlin
fleet. Upgrades included building in an open system
architecture, adding improvements to the mission system
processing capability, incorporating large area flat panel
displays, and integrating new capabilities for the advanced
Radar and Sonar systems. All the enhancements were carefully
designed to extend the life of the multi-mission Merlin
fleet and make the helicopters, already praised by the Royal
Navy, even more capable.
Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems Group Managing
Director Ron Christenson said: “This is the most prestigious
award that this company confers and to have our Havant team
as the recipients not only signifies the team’s impressive
level of achievement but also the value Lockheed Martin
places on its programme performance in the UK. We are the
centre of excellence for systems engineering, our customer
knows it, and indeed the entire corporation of 135,000
people knows it.”
Winning team members are: Bill Widner, John Yuhnick,
Murray Diamond, Trevor Watkins, Andrew Wickens, Malcolm
McKenzie, Nigel Ellis, Mark Hunt, Paul Russell, Bob Hanson,
Mark Ryder, Ed Balunas, Jeff Otten, Colin Eldridge, Jon
Walter, Carlo Pritchard, Neil Morphett, Mike Mulcahy, Kate
Pennington, Sally Cranstone, Dirk Lommelaars, Carey Morton,
Paul Feest
